Combine, by Explosive Football, runs all six combine tests with one iPhone. A friend or parent holds the phone; the app lays out the course and times him from his own first movement.
His 40 with the 10-yard split and top speed in mph, his shuttle, 3-cone, broad jump, vertical and bench — and a chart for each test that moves week by week.
Hand-timed 40s commonly read 0.2–0.3 seconds faster than electronic times: the timer starts late (after the runner moves) and stops early (as the runner approaches). When the big combines moved to electronic starts, recorded times got about a quarter of a second slower. Nobody got slower — the clock got honest. The Combine app starts on his own movement and labels every result "App-timed · combine-style start".
Weekly in the off-season. Expect week-to-week noise of about a tenth; look at the trend over four to eight weeks. In season, every few weeks — games and practice come first. A slow week is normal: sleep, soreness, school and weather all move a 40.
Warm up 10–15 minutes. Same place, same shoes, every time. For the bench: always a spotter, the right load, never a max alone. Stop if anything hurts.
Free to run all six tests. Combine Pro — rank at his position, leaderboards, full history and the 40 splits with top speed — is $49.99/year or $7.99/month, 7 days free, Family Sharing included. Less than one local combine, every week for a year.
Built by a dad. Jens is a former national-level sprinter and certified speed coach who timed his own sons with a stopwatch, got two different numbers on the same afternoon, bought lasers — and found that what changed them was seeing an honest number every Saturday.
